The medium category of laptops can be a bit tricky. Because of their flexible prices, we can find a great bang for the buck fairly easy, but we can also find models that don’t make the right compromises or have some major flaws. That’s why we have to be especially careful when shopping for these kinds of machines.

Fortunately, with the review of the HP ProBook 455 G3 W4E07UT#ABA we plan on doing just that. Come join us and keep reading to find out if this mid-level computer is the right fit for you.

Pros: 16 GB of RAM, long battery life, backlit keyboard, entry level price.
Cons: No dedicated graphics, no SSD storage (which is standard in this price range)

HP ProBook 455 G3 W4E07UT#ABA Head on Review

Screen and design

One of the first things to notice about the HP ProBook 455 G3 W4E07UT#ABA is its straight-forward design. It has a simple but discrete plastic body with a silver finish accompanied by a black backlit keyboard. It’s not going to raise any attention, but that’s actually the point, as the laptop seems to have a down-to-business style.

On the screen department, we’re dealing with a 15.6 inch panel, which is the standard medium size for laptops, the ideal for most people looking to do some work and/or extended desktop use; but that also plan on carrying it around from time to time. The screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels that’ll certainly come in handy when watching HD videos.

Power and multitasking

The ProBook packs an AMD A10-8700P, a 2 MB cache processor with four cores clocked at a base speed of 1.8 GHz and a maximum speed of 3.2 GHz. This chip is especially designed for cost efficiency and low power consumption, so you can expect certain advantages on those departments.

On Intel terms, that means it will perform similarly to a Core i3 (of the U family). In real world terms, that means you’ll get great performance for doing work (office-like software), web browsing and playing several media like music and movies. Heavier tasks like editing high resolution video and complex software will probably be too much to handle comfortably, though.

What really stood out when doing the review of the HP ProBook 455 G3 W4E07UT#ABA was the fact that it has a whooping 16 GB of DDR3L SDRAM. What that basically means is that you’ll never run out of space for multitasking. 16 GB is above standard even for premium laptops, so have a blast: open lots of tabs on Chrome, run several programs simultaneously and don’t ever worry about having to upgrade (even though you can). You simply won’t slow down.

What games can I play?

Being a mid-level product, the ProBook relies on an integrated GPU as expected. The short version is that this is not a laptop made for gaming. The a-bit-longer version is that older titles and simple indie games will run just fine. Some modern games like The Sims 4 and FIFA 16 aren’t very demanding so they can be played even at medium settings, but it’s not an option to go beyond that.

What’s battery life like?

HP stands by this laptop’s durability, saying it can last up to 7 hours and 15 minutes on its own. The laptop itself has a 4-cell, 44 WHr Li-on battery, so those numbers will probably ring true in real life situations. For a machine this size, this is certainly a great advantage over other models.

Storage and connectivity

Similarly to the W4E07UT#ABA’s RAM memory, the storage option present here favors space more than anything. We’re dealing with a mechanical hard-drive with a capacity of 1TB. You shouldn’t run out of space anytime soon.

You won’t be missing any connectivity options either. The laptop has two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports (so four in total), one HDMI out, the obligatory headphone/microphone combo jack and even a VGA port for video. To top it all, there’s also an optical drive present, so if you’re still into physical media, this will certainly come in handy.

What’s the verdict?

We’ll put it simply. After analyzing the review of the HP ProBook 455 G3 W4E07UT#ABA, we can say that if you’re looking for a solid machine to do desktop work and entertainment consumption, but still want to be able to carry it around without much hassle, this is more than a compelling choice.

The 16GB of RAM and the large storage are the standouts, but add the solid processor and long battery life and you get a laptop that's in it for the long run.
