Asus has done a pretty great job when it comes to entry-level laptops, with many models managing to climb onto the lists of top-selling PCs. However, if you're a hardcore multitasker you'll quickly find that entry-level or even mid-level laptops fall short when it comes to RAM, with most laptops topping up at 8 GB within this category. Such is the case of the Asus VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34, an extremely popular laptop that landed on the shelves with 8 GB of RAM yet also allowed its users the ability to upgrade its memory.
Having said that, today we're going to give you a quick walkthrough of everything you need to know to upgrade the RAM on the Asus VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34.
Asus VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34 RAM Upgrade
How much RAM can I use? What type of RAM is compatible?
As far as how much memory you should get, we will always recommend going up to a total of 20 GB with a 16 GB module but for most use cases a total of 12 GB of RAM with an additional 8 GB module should work out well.
How Do I Perform the upgrade?
As we've mentioned before in other tutorials, you're going to need a prying tool of some sort, a screwdriver and we would recommend the use of antistatic gloves to avoid getting any kind of shock from the laptop, though if you're careful this is unlikely in a RAM upgrade.
Step 1: Before starting the upgrade you should make sure the F512JA-AS34 is turned off and disconnected from its power source.
Following that, you should place the laptop upside down and remove all the screws attaching the lower case to the laptop. We would seriously encourage you to draw out a diagram of where each screw goes as you remove them since there are three different types of screw sizes in this laptop.
Step 2: Once the screws have been removed, gently yet firmly make use of a prying tool, such as this one, to open up the laptop.
Step 3: Now that the lower case has been removed and the laptop's internals have been exposed you'll be able to quickly see the RAM slot that's available for upgrade. Now that you've located the RAM slot you're going to go ahead and pull outwards on the clasps located on the sides of the RAM slot. A gentle pull will release the RAM at a 45-degree angle.
Step 4: Once the RAM has been released, remove it and insert the RAM module you've bought. To know how to place it correctly all you need to do is make sure that both the notch on the module and the notch on the slot align, that's how you know you're inserting the RAM properly.
Once they're aligned like the picture below, insert the RAM and press down. You'll hear a click, that's the sound of the clasps clutching onto the module.

Step 5: Place the case back on, here's where the diagram you made earlier will come in handy to insert the screws in their proper place. Turn the laptop on and now, to verify that the RAM has been successfully upgraded you can head over to "Device Specifications" where you'll see your new amount of memory updated.
As you can see, it's a fairly easy process and possibly the quickest upgrade you can perform on this laptop. Later on, we will be covering how to upgrade the storage on the Asus VivoBook 15 F512JA-AS34, for now, enjoy your newfound freedom with all the possibilities that the extended amount of RAM provides you.
