Image Quality

LG 27MP400-B performance
The LG 27MP400-B sports an IPS 27-inch display which offers enviable viewing angles without skimping on quality, brightness, or color gamut when seeing it from different angles.

This model comes with 72% of NTSC color gamut coverage or what is equal to up to 16.7 million colors that can be shown on the screen, while its peak brightness of 250 cd/m2 and anti-glare coating are good enough to get decent performance as far as it isn't exposed to direct sunlight conditions. AKA: don't place this monitor with its front facing the window, though this goes for most monitors.

As with most budget-friendly IPS monitors, its static contrast ratio of just 1000:1 and IPS glow around the corners when viewed from higher angles will prevent you from getting totally black images when watching dark multimedia content in dark rooms.

If you're looking to get deep blacks, you should probably look at OLED monitors, but these are considerably more expensive.

Furthermore, the LG 27MP400-B rocks a stunning Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) with a pixel pitch of 0.3114 x 0.3114 mm, so you can visualize crisp images without going too far from the screen when doing day-to-day tasks such as web surfing, spreadsheet editing, and writing e-mails.

In just a few words, it delivers clean, bright, and sharp images when watching streaming content, as many of its buyers can attest to.

Although it is not a gaming monitor, the LG 27MP400-B boasts a response time of up to 5 ms (GtG) with the "faster" mode turned on, so you can enjoy action movies, series, and sports without noticing ghosting in any case.

Moreover, it supports AMD FreeSync and Dynamic Action Sync technologies delivering a pleasant gaming experience as it virtually reduces screen tearing and stuttering when playing fast-paced AAA titles (racing, shooters, e-Sports, simulators, etc.).

However, since it is a 75Hz monitor, we don't recommend it specifically for gaming since you would fare better with models that feature a higher refresh rate for fast-paced gaming environments.

When it comes to productivity tasks, you can get the most out of this monitor, considering it has a flicker-free display allowing you to turn on the "Reader Mode" so you'll be able to work throughout the day while avoiding the side effects of blue light emissions that are generally to blame for eye fatigue.

Features

Amongst its most appealing specs, the LG 27MP400-B features a tiny directional joystick in the bottom bezel and an OnScreen Control software that lets you quickly set up the most common settings according to your needs.

It also boasts Black Stabilizer technology for improving visibility in the darkest scenes in both multimedia and gaming, while its crosshair overlays will be very helpful when playing shooter games.

Last but not least, it's important to mention that this model doesn't support HDR content. If you are looking for a model that does, we would suggest the LG 34WN80C-B we reviewed a few months back. It's more expensive though, keep that in mind.

Design and Connectivity of the LG 27MP400-B

LG 27MP400-B connectivity options

Design-wise, this LG monitor comes in an elegant black unibody chassis with a 3-side borderless design that gives it an eye-catching look while offering an immersive viewing experience.

It can also be tilted so you can adjust the display tilt according to your needs, and if you prefer to mount it on the wall, then you can do so using a 75 x 75 mm VESA mount support.

Tackling into its terrestrial ports, it comes with a D-Sub port and a single HDMI output so you can connect multimedia devices such as laptops, desktop computers, videogame consoles, tablets, and so on.

It's pretty basic with regards to connectivity options but let us not forget we're looking at a budget-friendly solution that still offers a lot where it counts (on the actual display).

What Are Customers Saying?

The LG 27MP400-B in question has garnered positive feedback from customers. Many customers highlight its vibrant colors, clear images, and overall performance. They appreciate the monitor's value for the price, making it a popular choice for those seeking a budget-friendly option.

The monitor's picture quality receives praise, with customers noting that it exceeds their expectations. Some customers specifically mention its superior image clarity compared to their previous monitors. The slim case border design is also well-liked, as it adds a modern and sleek touch to the monitor's appearance. Additionally, the monitor's compatibility with VESA mounts is appreciated by users who prefer a customizable setup.

However, there are a few downsides that customers have encountered. Some customers have reported issues with the included HDMI cable, which was found to be defective. This inconvenience required them to seek alternative cables. Additionally, a few customers have faced challenges in adjusting the monitor's picture to their liking, experiencing color shifts or difficulty in matching dual monitors.

Despite these drawbacks, the majority of customers find the 27MP400-B to be a satisfactory choice within its price range. Its picture quality, ease of installation, and lightweight design are commonly praised. While there are some concerns related to color adjustments and connectivity, the overall consensus is positive, with customers acknowledging the monitor as a good value for their needs.

Price and Similar Monitors

The LG 27MP400-B is one of the most reasonably-priced 27-inch models on the market, especially if you're looking for an entry-level and day-to-day solution that delivers good picture quality in any scenario.

However, it's important to highlight that this LG model isn't for hardcore gamers, so if you need a gaming-oriented monitor, you should take a look at the ASUS VG248QG since it packs a stunning TN 24-inch display that supports 165 and 144 Hz refresh rates, is NVIDIA G-Sync and FreeSync fully compatible, and has wider connectivity options.

Verdict: Is the LG 27MP400-B worth buying?

Overall, the LG 27MP400-B will be an excellent choice as long as you specifically want a low-cost Full HD monitor to do the basic computer tasks such as streaming videos and movies and playing casual games in your free time.

It is not a monitor we recommend for gamers, graphic designers, photographers, or video editors since it doesn't feature the vivid colors, refresh rate, and connectivity options that this set of users would require. For everyone else, it's a solid option.

We also appreciate its low price point, crisp images, Nvidia technology, low latency mode of 5ms from GtG, and 250 nits of brightness without any dead pixels. Overall, a monitor that's meant for the masses is bound to satisfy you as long as you don't belong to the above group of people we've mentioned.
