Acer Aspire 7741Z 5731 RAM Upgrade Step By Step

A lot of people end up buying a new laptop because their old notebook simply isn't as fast as it once was. However, for most of us, this is an issue that can be quickly solved by upgrading the RAM on our older notebook. This simple procedure will breathe new life into our old laptop and will make a substantial difference in terms of speed and overall performance.

In today's RAM upgrade, we're going to be working with the Acer Aspire 7741Z 5731, a fairly outdated laptop by today's standard that could really do with a quick memory upgrade to improve the user experience.

Without further ado, let's get on with the Acer Aspire 7741z 5731 RAM upgrade!

How To Upgrade The Memory On The Acer Aspire 7741Z 5731

What Type of RAM Do I Need? How Much RAM May I Install?

Before you get your toolbox and become trigger-happy on Amazon you should know how much RAM you can install on this laptop and what type of module it supports. In this case, seeing as we're talking about a fairly old laptop, it should come as no surprise that Acer's notebook can manage a maximum amount of 8 GB of RAM. Much like the HP 15-f272wm RAM upgrade we saw last week.

The laptop comes with two available slots and already features 3 GB of RAM in one slot so you could easily go ahead and remove that unit to make way for two 4 GB modules.

As far as the type of module, you're going to need a DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz SODIMM memory module. We would urge you to go ahead and get two 4 GB compatible memory modules for a total of 8 GB of RAM

We would not recommend upgrading to 4 GB mainly because you wouldn't really notice much of an improvement as well as the fact that the price difference between the 8 GB and 4 GB upgrade is fairly modest while the performance difference is substantial.

Acer Aspire 7741Z 5731 RAM Upgrade Step By Step

Step 1: Before doing anything we should turn the laptop off and remove any connected accessories. Additionally, if you want to take an extra measure of caution you could also remove the battery but this isn't something you need to do when upgrading the RAM on a laptop.

Step 2: Place the laptop on its back over a straight surface and, with the help of a Philips screwdriver, remove the 4 screws connecting the bottom case to the rest of the laptop. This is the section that gives the user access to both the RAM modules and the storage module.

Step 3: Now that you have access to the two available RAM slots you're going to remove the RAM module that came with the laptop. To do so simply pull outwards on the metallic clasps located on the sides of the memory slot.

This will release the RAM module at a 45-degree angle, at which point you should remove it from the laptop.

Step 4: Now that both slots are empty you need to grab your memory modules and insert them into the memory slots. To do so simply approach the slot with the module as if you were landing a plane. +

By this, I mean that you should approach it at a 45-degree angle. Make sure that both the notch on the module and the notch on the RAM slot align. This is how you know you are introducing it correctly. It should look something like this:

Step 5: Once the RAM module is securely placed in the slot you should press down on the module. When doing this you will hear a "clicking" noise, that's the sound of the clasps clutching to the new RAM modules.

Step 6: When that's done simply re-attach the bottom case to the laptop, turn the laptop on and you should be able to find the updated amount of RAM under the hardware information. The location of this information could carry depending on the version of Windows you're using.

And that's it! You have successfully upgraded the RAM on the Acer Aspire 7741Z 5731. A simple and straightforward process that will give you a lot more possibilities and much faster performance on everyday tasks.
